Galo de Barcelos
Teresa Almeida is a Portuguese artist, designer, educator and producer
currently living and working in New York City. She is a graduate from
the Interactive Telecommunications Program at NYU. Her work with wearable
technologies and textiles led her to rediscover knitting last summer.
The Galo de Barcelos is a charismatic character from a Portuguese popular
ancient story which nowadays can be found in all kinds of household and
touristic souvenirs from t-shirts, magnets, pens, coasters to mouse pads.
The first experiments involved cotton yarn, several colors, days and some
despair. The final work was made with acrylic yarn from Tricots Brancal,
Covilhã in Portugal sent by Teresa’s mother. This was the
first time Teresa used knitPro.
